How long does hair take to fall out?

💐 sending you a hug. How well I remember that period of time. Brave face and tears underneath. I have 1cm of hair all over my head now after 7 months. This too shall pass xxx

I shaved my head on the weekend. Hair falling lots now. Pain has subsided but still so sensitive. Yes even on the pillow, nothing is comfortable, scarves,caps all hurt but I need something on my head, just soft beanie for now.

@onnett I wasnt told how bad the pain would actually be.   People said my head would be sensitive.  It hurt to put my head on a pillow at night. @blossum1961 says the most painful is just before hair starts to fall out.    Has your pain subsided now a few days later? 

It seems to hurt the most just before it falls out. Wearing a snug cap tends to relieve the pain.

My head is hurting so bad. I’m on day 22, (weekly pac/carb)I have (normally) long hair and lots of it. Before I started chemo I got a cut, no. 4 shaved head but kept long And thinned our on top. I’ve probably started the hair falling out but it’s not really noticeable yet, some odd hairs on my clothes and shower but that’s sorta normal for me. I am not coping with the pain on my head today, significantly worse than yesterday. It hurts wat too much to even touch. I could not handle shaving it right now.ive taken Panadol and neurofen and having a warm bath immersing my head underneath gently seems to help. I worried about it getting more painful and the falling process slow for me.  

Hi @KylieG as we are coming into winter, perfect excuse to cover up in beanies. I had my chemo in spring so wore mine until it was too hot then I wore caps/ hats. I’m a bit of a hat wearing girl anyway. Mine is coming back slowly in silver and dark grey. Kind of like it. Caz x

I had my hair cut short when it started to fall out, which was 2 weeks after chemo commenced and then just let it fall out progressively. I bought two wigs which I occasionally wore - my lovely daughter in law bought me a few hats and headwear from Jas Fashion - www.jasfashion.com.au - they are affordable and have a lovely wide range of options; the other lovely thing that I bought myself was two caps/beanies from Smitten Merino who are in Tasmania and you can shop online - one was cotton/merino and the other just merino. I wore one to bed every night as my head was always cold  :) I also bought myself a man's balding hair cutting thing from Good Guys (Remington Head Shaver) so that when it grew back unevenly, I could cut it evenly and now that it is finally growing back all over it is an even-ish 1cm. It was easy to use and soft on my head  ;). 
The other good thing that I used every day was one of those sticky rollers to collect all the hair on my pillow and sheets each morning <3 <3

Hi all I have just had number 7 of taxol - 5 to go. I had 4 x AC to start. I have just read all of your posts about hair - losing mine was a big deal as I tried the cold cap and it did not work for me and I totally agree that shaving it ended up being a much better option. @KylieG your new hair growth is looking good! I can’t wait until mine grows, I have a really soft little coating that has just appeared and I am very happy - wish I could apply fertiliser 😂. @Blossom1961 your curls are great.
