Hormone therapy side effects and Endorphins
I read on the blog of terrible side effects many on hormone therapy endure.Three major ones seem to be depression, body aches/ pain and insomnia
Many years ago I was fascinated by a group of young blokes seemingly addicted to daily jogging. I was told exercise releases a hormone called endorphins of similar chemical structure to morphine and they enjoyed a “runners high” from jogging.I also noted their ability to deal with pressure seemed to be better possibly due to this hormone.
I also remember a friend suffering post natal depression having exercise as part of her treatment.
I have had a bit of a look today online and there is much about endorphins and their impact on these side effects.
It may not help all but it may help some to explore this option.I think my management of Letrozole is helped by daily walking for an hour.It also helps with my weight which is not entirely the result of Letrozole.
I would never have described myself as an advocate of exercise but I am now. I also found it hard starting out as the terrain near home can be steep and I was far from fit.I also had back pain but found I could walk thru it.
Just a thought.

- RomlaMemberHi all ,
Bit disappointed that what started as a thread to encourage exercise as a counter to hormone therapy side effects has digressed into a discussion of one’s favourite tipple be it alcohol or drugs.
I have no objection to the discussion just it’s location. - kmakmMember@Sister Lol, Pethidine makes me feel revolting!
- SisterMemberEndone makes me sick, gas makes me sick - but, ooooh, a little bit of pethidine.... Just as well it's not legal!
- kmakmMember@Blossom1961 Gas makes me vomit! We're all different, thank goodness. K xox
- iserbrownMemberThat sounds a little sad Mersyndol with wine! What happened to strawberries and wine?
Hope things improve
Take care - Blossom1961MemberNot sure what is wrong with me. They have to give me the max strength of morphine just to take away the pain but does nothing to float me. Endone full strength only takes the edge off. But the gas, mmmmmmm, float away. Mersyndol does as much as Endone but helps me sleep. Before BC I usually only took natural remedies unless drastic pain, then it was Mersyndol, so it isn’t as though my body is used to them. Ooh, I did find out by accident that Mersyndol with a glass of wine works really well. 😴 💤
- kmakmMember@"Kiwi Angel" Not a big fan of Endone. I don't think it agrees with me very much. Sometimes I think it gives me a headache. But that could be because I'm not feeling good when I take it in the first place!
- Kiwi_AngelMemberI quite like endone - used to like morphine but the last few years it has given me nausea - get what u mean about it - was like floating on a soft pillowy cloud.
- kmakmMemberMy favourite drug is morphine. They didn't give me much after my BMX & recon because my BP was too low but when I burnt my hand last year I had lots. Mmmm, so drifty and easy. Bliss!
