Home today!

Thank you my lovely friends for all the messages of support, right up to my surgery on Monday - the advice was wonderful, and the support kept me strong and focussed all week. ( I don't have a laptop, so had to wait to reply.)

I came home this morning - day 4 - and can honestly say there was no real pain with the bilateral surgery - more a dull discomfort, kept in check with Panadol and 1 Endone at night. They will remove the final drain over the weekend, and discuss chemo cocktails on Tuesday when I see the surgeon again.

You are right - sleeping upright isn't the easiest thing to do - so have done the pillow-pile as you suggested, and it really works!

The tumour was 3.5cm and I had 6 nodes removed, which have been given the all clear, so I am incredibly lucky given the speed and size of the cancer.  I feel very blessed. 

I have told everyone at the hospital how much support I have received from my lovely BCNA friends, and several other patients are going to join the network too.

    Hi Georgie,

    So glad you had a lovely break back in the normal world with your husband, and just enjoyed life for a few days - it makes a huge difference to have some cancer-free time.

    I hope all goes well today - let me know when you get your radiotherapy program and when you start.  Do hope your hemotoma is shrinking.  I have just had my nuclear injection and go back for bone scans in a few hours.  Then tomorrow they put in the portacath and I start chemo on the 10th, weekly for 18 weeks. (My oncologist then suggests radiation, followed by hysterectomy so it will be a long haul.)

    Hi Michelle

    I haven't been online for a while as  I have been away but I am so pleased to hear you are travelling well, take the time to been cared for as it is really important to rest up as much as you can.  I made the mistake of trying to do to much and ended up with a hematoma that is the size of a goose egg and seemingly not going anywhere. It is strange that I had a small lump removed only to have an egg size lump in it's place LOL talk about a reminder......

    I have my planning appt with oncology today for radiation and dates and times for when it will start.

    HI Michelle

    Great to hear that you are recovering well. And thanks for the advice. I have kept busy, trying not to think too much about Friday. But as you say, the sooner I start to sooner it will be finished.

    I also have been doing my physio exercises, but I still don't have full arm movement to be able to have my arm reach the sky straight. That will take time the physio and surgeon told me.

    But, hey, I shouldn't complain. :)

    I will let you know, how I go on Friday, so take care and hope you are getting heaps of attention and care from family.

    Hi Trina,

    It's all so fast isn't it?  A few weeks ago we were in total ignorance - then diagnosis and the roller coaster starts.   My husband still has moments of disbelief that this is happening at all.  However he is so strong it helps me to be strong too.  (I am not baking like you, but he has still gained weight comfort eating while I was in hospital!)

    How is your little boy coping?  Hope all is okay.

    I find out about chemo next week - you are still my guide as to what happens next!  Will hopefully meet my oncologist then, too.  Will be in touch before you start chemo on May 3...stay strong,

    Thanks - am getting spoilt at the moment, but no chance of becoming a diva - my family is too down-to-earth for that - it is nice, though!

    Hi Julie,

    I will be thinking of you on Friday when you start chemo and sending you big hugs.  Just keep thinking that the sooner it gets started, the sooner it will be finished.  (and keep busy until Friday so you don't think about it too much - message me any time you want.)

    I am so sorry you are still sore - you had a lot of nodes removed.  My 'pain'lady said to take as many painkillers as you need for as long as you need (no heroics) and nodes can be sorer than breasts after surgery.  A physio visited me in hospital, and the gentle exercise she suggested really helped with the tightness/stabs afterwards.

    Pleased to hear everything went well for you... take it easy and rest up... let your family pamper you.

    Things have progressed with me - specialist appointment Wednesday and I met my onchologist today and start chemo May 3....  my head is spinning...

    So glad you are okay :) Thats fantastic news about the tumour and nodes. You are truly blessed.

    I still find it hard to sleep, and I to need the "pillow prop up" But I know in time I will be able to sleep better.

    Thats great that you dont need to many pain killers. I needed them for quite a few weeks. And my right arm and breast are still quite sore.

    I start chemo next Friday 27/4, so not really looking forward to it. I will be on FEC100 and then on Paclitaxel. Then once chemo is finished, radiation starts. Boo hoo !

    Anyway, take it easy, and rest up big time. And please let us know how you are going and what treatment you are going to have.
