Home again

Saturday May 17

I left the hospital yesterday morning (Friday) and am now at home doing my best to start living as normally possible as soon as possible. This is still a little more difficult than I imagined but on the positive front I did walk to Coles with my son this morning to buy a few essentials (a big jar of Nutella and a new bottle of nail polish).

Anyhow  my operation was a great success and the whole experience could not have been any better - I am truly blessed as can been seen in the following list of  'highlights'.

  • I didn’t have to do anything but stay in bed for almost three days and if I did anything (eg, get up and comb my hair ) I was lavished with praise by almost everyone
  • I had lots of wonderful visitors who bought chocolate and flowers (like a 1000 Valentines Days but better because in real life I haven’t actually received anything for Valentines Day since around 1990)
  • I had a surprise reunion with a gorgeous woman I met at playgroup when my children were toddlers but who I haven’t seen in about 10 years – she was my main nurse!
  • My surgeon is so charming that he told me that I probably wouldn’t have enough fat on my stomach for a breast reconstruction – yeah right! I told him “you’re really not paid enough!”
  • Apart from showing me great kindness, some of my younger still-single nurses taught me critical information like:  young good looking doctors work in public hospitals while older married doctors work in private hospitals
  • I learnt the local history of my very own street from the 85-year-old woman in the bed next to me – can you believe it she used to live next door to my townhouse 60 years ago?

Well, there you have it proof that even during tough times good things still happen.

Who knew?
