Holy Sh*it it's finally happening!

Hi Yasmin. I have had a read through your blog and have really found a lot of information and insight in to what is coming for me when I start chemo in a couple of days.... is it me not reading this site properly or have you not made any more posts since May 28? How is your head now? I am hoping you're in a better position now and not so sick...?  I am sending you all the good vibes I can muster  ;-)

Thank you, I have just booked in with my hairdresser for Tuesday so hopefully I will have good sleeps after that.

Thank you Shazinoz, I will have to find an electric razor, may be buy my son in law one for his birthday and ask to use it lol :)

I did the smooth as a baby bottoms shave due to the cactus prickles and pain, you can use an electric razor to do it, using a normal manual razor can cause infection if you get a nick (and don't treat it or see it).

All of my headaches and pain and the awful lying on cactus prickles feelsing went when I went Smooth.

I don't think you are likely to get ingrown hairs or anything (unless you are exceptionally prone to them (I don't have any and I am sort of rone to them)).

Hi, I have enjoyed reading your blog. I am having my third chemo on two weeks which gets me half way and I had my hair cut very short and then when it started to fall out I had a 0 electric shave. My head is very sore when I go to bed at night and I suffer from headaches which I keep taking pain killers for but I found a towel head wrap the most comfortable. I was under the impression that it could cause in grown hairs and may be get an infection from close shaving the scalp. If this is not the case I would love to have a smooth as a baby's bottom shave.

I cut mine to a number 2 when it started to fall out, was neater that way. and then shaved the rest off a week or 2 longer, when the whispy spikey were annoyin me and making sleep etc difficult.

I will NEVER regret the number 2 or the full monty shave, now it is smooth as a babys bum, and I embrace it.

I do not wear or own a wig, I have a number of beanies and highly recommend buying a cotton sleep cap, as your head gets cold at night when you have no hair. I alsogo out bald, I have no issues with being bald, and believe that if anyone was to stare at me (and there have been very few) then they have the problem NOT ME. I have to take me hat of sometimes, as I get shocking hot flushes from the chemo induced menopaus, which mostly seems to affect my head and neck and mean I often need to whip my hat off, I try to leave it on when outside, just becasue it is so cold here in Winter (- 6C tonight here in ACT).

Embrace the bald and take control and do the shave, it really helps witht he headaches and the awful prickly feelings etc.

Yep I remember them ouchy scalp nights trying to put my head on the pillow.  It is best to get it all shaved off cause even a little prickle still hurts when you lay your head on the pillow.  They say a satin pillow helps but I never got around to getting myself one. 

I cut my hair off in stages prior to chemo and then had a number 3 as soon as it started coming out in my hands like yours.  I wanted to go total full monty but girls at hairdresser wouldn't let me. I so wish I had of stuck to my guns and gone the whole hog back then.  My hair started to fall out day 14 after first chemo.

I am now due for chemo number 5 and I have tiny lil prickles on my head.  I have done a rough full monty shave myself as I really really wanted an as smooth as a babys bum feeling but I haven't quite managed to get there yet.  Two chemo's to go and I might get there.  You will be able to become famous like us and have your beautiful bald head in the blog with all us other bald headed ladies :-)

It is a real tough thing to get through but you will find it is just another hurdle that you will jump over and get to the other side.

My hubby loves running his hands through my hair (bald head that is hee hee).

I got a really lovely wig that everyone comments on how nice it looks (I needed it for my daughters wedding).  It came from a wig shop in Subiaco in Perth (not sure where you live but there will be shops in your area as well I am sure)  I have private health cover and it was fully covered under the table that I am on so it cost me nothing.  Plus also a lot of hospitals will give a voucher to the wig shop for a set amount.  I think the public hospital I went to gave a voucher for $160.  Worth looking in to these things.

Hello, I still have fluff on my head but not much.  I found so much relief in rubbing olive oil on my head and just letting it soak in.  I hated the itchy sunburn/ bruise sensation.

Visit headcovers.com, an american site for some fun hats, wigs and even eyebrow tatoos.  My family and I have laughed at some of the hats with hair attached.  Simply amazing what you can find for head wear once you start looking.

Be gentle on yourself, this will pass and you will have hair back soon.

Hi, You are a pretty girl so you will look good in hats etc.  Also - bonus - the weather is cool so your head won't get hot.  Have fun with the head wear and You will get through this.  It is now nearly 1 year since I finished chemo.  My hair is nearly to my ears.  I had it chenically straightened so tht it would go down instead out (curls).  The curls were good too when they were short.  Nothing like experiencing new things!!!
