High grade DCIS
After a mammogram guided core biopsy my surgeon rang to say I had DCIS and he would need to remove a small area which would probably be all that was necessary.
A few days later he did a lumpectom...

Thanks so much for replying. I've seen surgeon again today and afraid I've come away more confused - doesn't take much these days !
At first he suggested the best way to go was with a subcutaneous mastectomy leaving the nipple in place, with an immediate reconstruction but by the end of the consultation he seemed to have shifted to maybe making a wider excision and conserving the breast.
Can I just ask whether you had radiotherapy after your lumpectomy or just went back and had the mastectomy?
More research tomorrow I think but probably a second opinion may be the way for me to go. With Christmas coming everyone's starting to wind down for the holidays - even breast surgeons so I feel I need to make a decision pretty quickly.
