Hi

Hi ladies,

Just discoverd this group and am still negotiating my way around this site.

I had a lumpectomy on the 25th of october and had a clear result. I start radiation on the 5th of december. I know Im exstreemly lucky, not needing chemo or further surgury and Im truly greatful for that. I feel though atm I'm so depressed and stressed that I cant even think straight. It's been so overwhelming, not sure how to handle it, my emotions are so conflicting and extreem. :/

Does anybody know of a good counsellor that i may be able to contact?

Thanks

  • Thanks Peta, since posting this though, I realise you guys are in melbourne :( lol..I had thought it was from the bayside area of Brisbane. Durr! :) But thankyou anyway for your imput. I start radiation on the 5th of Dec and plan on catching up with the oncology social worker while Im there, I will wait and ask for her recomendation. Or may even ring her before hand.

Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

  • Thanks mate. Already the realization of just how much I am not alone, is sad, but also a comfort I cant describe. I hope somewhere along the way I can give back..It's an amazing network here, only wish it were around for my mother 30 years ago...but never mind, I'm sure she is smiling down and happy that I am blessed to have such resources and support available to me.

  • My first suggestion always Erica is to call Cancer Council to have a chat.  Often just talking about it will relieve some of your anxiety.  Their number is 131120.

    Good luck luvy.

  • Hi Erica, I have seen a psychologist, Jane Fletcher, at Cabrini. She works in Brighton and Malvern. Your GP should be able to refer you to Jane under a mental healthcare plan, which means that Medicare funding is given for the consultations. Jane specialises in psychology for cancer, and has a lot of experience with breast cancer. I found her helpful. All the best, Anna
