Hi to everyone

Hi dear group members,

I am a new be diagonised 12NOV, 9DEC lumpectomy...and 3 lymph nodes at Robina Hospital......

15mm tumer, 1/3 lymph nodes DCIS.  I was proposed to have another surgery with to take off the whole block of lymph nodes at my right, a week later, the Surgeon had more confident of not taking it and will put to Chemo treatment.

However I still need another surgery 28JAN which is to take more tissue around the tumer, so as to have more clear margin, waiting waiting waiting, still have no schedule with the Chemo and Radiopathy.

I wonder is it too long for processing and start chemo?   I had no clue about that, or is it may be Public patient, Mmmmm

  • Hi Rosanna,

Christmas is a tough time to be dealing with a new diagnoses and even in the private system things move a little slower at this time of year. I was diagnosed in March 2011 - old hand now.... and I must admit my surgeon had me in hospital pretty quickly for lumpectomy ( 2 days later), he took 14 lymph nodes however we did wait for several weeks before I started chemotherapy. My oncologist was comfortable waiting 4-6 weeks to give me time to see family interstate and get myself strong & well post surgery. I had 2 invasive tumors that had pretty much joined into a single mass approx 7cm x 6cm in total - stage 3 so quite advanced and agressive. Your first priority needs to be your upcoming second surgery and getting a clear margin report, once you have recovered your oncologist should talk to you about your ongoing treatment plan. i wouldn't be too concerned at this stage but do talk to your oncologist about any concerns or questions you have. Its easy to say but you need to stay positive and focus on one thing at a time.

    Good luck and be well.

  • I'm glad you came through your surgery & I wish well & smooth sailing through your next phase big (((hugs))) Chtistine:) x
  • I too am just down the road from the hospital between the highway & the hospital.

    I will follow your progress.

  • Hi Rosanna

Great to hear that you have come through your surgery, I had my surgery, chemo & radium treatment all at the PA and I can ony say that I received nothing but the best treatment in the public system. I finished all my treatments in November 2012 and go back every 6 mths now for tests and to see my surgeon. I live in Robina so if ever you would like to meet and talk with someone who is not family I am happy to do that.

This is a great forum with lots of support from so many, we all have different stories that have a common factor.

Keep in touch and all the very best for your future treatments.
