Here's to my Journey!

Hi everyone

Just to let you know that I went to the surgeon today to finalize the arrangements for my mastectomy.

I'm going to be admitted to Epworth Eastern in Box Hill (Vic) on Monday 28th November.

As well as having the mastectomy I'm also have all my lymph nodes taken out and have been told that I will wake up with drainage tubes etc.

I'll be staying for at least 4 - 5 days in hospital as I take longer to recover from surgery than most other people.  This is because I have a rare skin condition which I was born with called epidermolysis bullosa.  It means only one layer of skin instead of the usual seven and also means that any trauma results in very bad bruising, bleeding and scarring.  I'm lucky in one way - I'm relatively mild compared to other sufferers but this will impact significantly on my length of stay in hospital and my recovery period.

Once I've recovered I'll be starting chemo.  I don't have the details of that yet but it can wait....I will need to concentrate on recovery from surgery first.

Oh and I must thank everyone for responding to my blogs.  It's so helpful to hear other's stories and get an idea of what to expect.  Please do keep them coming.

    Hi helen anne I have mucinous cancer too.

    Sorry to hear that you have MC Breast cancer too. This is my diagnosis  Pure Mucinous Cancer DCIS Diagnosis: 10/20/2010, Mammogram then fine needle biopsy, (non-palpable)  top left quadrant of left breast 2.0cm, Stage I, Grade 1, 0/3 nodes, ER+(>75%), PR+ (>75%) HER2-, Lumpectomy 24th Nov 2010 RAH , Tamoxifen 6th Dec 2010 Radiotherapy 25x from 28th Feb 2011. I have found the Breast Cancer Support online for Mucinous Cancer the most helpful especially as several of the women online are very knowledgeable. So I rarely log in here now. I had a few minutes today so checked BCNA out and just read your comments. If you research Mucinous Cancer on BCNA it will take you to my info as well as to yours. I will certainly be trying to keep up with your progress.

    This is the scripture I use daily to keep my spirits up

    Matt 6:34"Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. That has certainly been my experience. The op, the radiotherapy and eventually tha Tamoxifen have allbeen quite manageable, and yes like you I am very positive. I have just had my 1 yr followup Mammogram and all is well so far. Lots of recovery prayers for your mastectomy etc MemyselfI
