Hi Helen,
I had my mastectomy 3 months ago and have had no problems. I first had a lumpectomy in 2002 (with chemo, radiation and tamoxifen) when I was 34. Then in August this year, I got a new primary in the same breast. It was a relief to have the mastectomy; if I'd had one in 2002, I wouldn't be going through chemo again now! I have my last chemo this Wednesday, and then I'm planning to have a mastectomy on my healthy breast and reconstruction on both sides. I have no pain from the mastectomy, can sleep lying on my side and my husband isn't bothered at all. Sex is still great haha!! My teenage daughters are fascinated by the scar and don't find it confronting or weird. I was only in hospital for 2 nights, but could have easily gone home a day earlier. By the time I left, I wasn't even taking any painkillers. All in all, it didn't disrupt my life much at all, and I was driving again in less than a week.
All the best with your next step. xx Jane
