Herceptin dose.

Today was my last dose of Herceptin and I was very surprised to be told that my last dose was 2mg per kg of body weight, rather than the previous dosage of 6mg per kg. When I questioned this, I was told that because the first loading dose was 50% stronger than subsequent ones, the last one is reduced as the PBS only pays for X amount of Herceptin per kg over the entire 17 dose cycle. Has anybody else had this? I couldn't believe it as nobody had mentioned anything like this to me before.

  • Same here, Last dose was given via infusion rather than the usual S/C.  Medicare would not approve the last dose to be given S/c and not full dose.  The s/c is a fixed dose and as medicare would only approve of a reduced dose had to be given via infusion.  I sound a bit confused ( chemo brain), but I think the dose was 30% .
  • Mmmmm haven't heard that either. But congrats on getting to the end, I have 3 more to go ...........but who's counting   :D !
  • Yes I have heard that there is an absolute limit for PBS but not precisely how it is calculated.
