HER2 positive should I have chemo

we have the same situation. I had my left mastectomy and they remove 1mm of tumor. I am also confuse and they'll told me the same. I am 36 now and don't have children yet. We did not continue the IVF because we are not financially stable. I did not start my treatment yet. I still have days to think. can you please let me know what did you decide so that i have some idea.

I too share a similar situation, aged 37. Had 6cm DCIS and 7mm IDC, ER/PR/HER Pos. Had mastectomy, finished last round of TCH chemo on 15th Aug but still continue my Herceptin for remainder of the 12 months (April 2013).

I also have 3 young children and want to give myself the best chances of never seeing breast cancer again.

Thank you for your messages.  I too am leaning towards pushing for the chemo as I want to make sure I have given myself the best chance of the cancer not coming back even if it only increases my chances by a few percent it's worth it to me and my family.

Merylee - do you mind if I ask how big your invasive tumor was?

I'm in a similar boat, 33yo, had 8 cm preinvasive cancer and a 2cm tumour that was pr-oe- and her 2 +. Also had the mastectomy etc.

I chose to do the chemo and herceptin for 12 months because I want the least risk of it coming back. And it is doable with a little one (my boy is 18months old). Last Monday was my 3rd doseTCH , and I ain't going to lie, I was rubbish come Wednesday/Thursday/Friday but Saturday arvo we went for a bushwalk , and today I feel normal and know from previous rounds this is me til the next dose.

Hope this helps with decision making, but at the end of the day do what is right for you.

I had a similar choice given to me. I chose to hit the cancer with everything they offered, including chemotherapy. i have now done 4 out of 6 chemo's. i dont regret my decision for a second. im 29. any questions just ask. We also have a young womens group on FB if you wanted to connect with younger women.

i know chemo can seem scary and theres alot of side effects etc like loosing your hair. but i think if it improves your chances of living longer and healthier why not do it... its only a short period of time you will be sick for, but you still have happy times in between and i think its better to be safe than sorry. 

Just my opinion though, its a very personal decision only you can make.
