  • Hi Beka

This is Kathy from BCNA's Policy Team. I was sorry to read that your cancer has returned in your lungs. From your photo it looks like you have two beautiful young children. It can be very difficult for kids to come to terms with a cancer diagnosis.

Most large public hospitals have social workers on their staff. If you are having treatment through a public hospital, you could ask there. You could also ask your breast care nurse, if you have one, if she knows of any social workers in your local area. Your oncologist or GP may also be able to help. Your GP could also refer you to a counsellor if your family needs some emotional support.

Have you received a Hope & Hurdles Pack and subscribed to The Inside Story? I am sure these would provide you with information and support. Daina's suggestion of joining one of the online groups is also a good one if you are looking for other women in a similar situation to talk to. Lots of women tell us they get great support through the online network.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

    All the best, Kathy

  • Thanks Daina,

    Hi Beka,

I am not sure if I am able to help you but some information is better than none I guess :-)

To find services in your area try the 'Local Services Directory' on our site - It's simple.....select the link below and complete a search of the directory using your postcode - http://www.bcna.org.au/sharing-support/find-services-your-area

If you know of any services which are not listed, you can include them! It's simple to create a new listing, let me know if you need a hand.

You may also find the below online groups of interest:

Good luck with finding the support you need for you and the family.

    Cheers, Daina
