help -lopsided reconstruction result & pain

Thanks for that.  Wow 7 surgeries, that's no good, but hopefully this next surgery fixes everything & leaves u with a look you are happy with & no pain

Hi @beccabecca sorry to hear your implants are not what you expected.... as @mum2jj said I also was not happy with my first implants. They were small, high up, looked like pec muscles, seized up and spazm'd. I had a second opinion but ended up going back to my original surgeon who put expanders back in, then in feb this year (after 3 months) put new slightly larger implants in, they're now 350cc.  Am I happy with them.. ...hmmmmm ... unfortunately I still have tightness, pain, limited movement and a constant pressure/seizing feeling.  I wanted to leave them for 12 months (as like you I'm sick of surgeries!) but my GP insisted I should have them removed as I've got the start of capsular contracture again.... so off I go for my third opinion, and he assures me that fat grafting should fix my pain, stop the capsular contracture and finally I will be comfortable.. so booked in for surgery number 7 on 22 June - unlike you mine weren't lopsided but as much as more surgery and recovery is painful, expensive and time consuming, you need to feel happy and you deserve to get what you want - your surgeon needs to help you - you have to live with your body - not him.  I've definitely learnt that over the last year.  If you want any more information or support please contact me - I really feel for you xxx

I will look into the link you gave me. Trying to deal with the emotions I'm going through after surgery & still in a bit of pain. My Gp & parents have suggested maybe counselling will help me deal better. But you wait to get into that as well.

Hi @beccabecca, I’m glad you have applied to join chooosing breast reconstruction. We had a member recently who was not happy after her changeover. She ended up having her implants removed and expanders back in, before another exchange. Sadly you have to be your own advocate, however you have gone private and should be able to get results you are somewhat happy with. That is not an unreasonable request in either public or private. Many ladies do need revisions, and there is always time needed for things to settle in. You should be able to read @Caseypinto posts in the photo stories under implants in the choosing breast recon group. I’ve tagged her here, but maybe you could message her after having a read through her posts.

Thanks @Rose18 that's what I was thinking, I don't trust this person to re-do it anyway. My skin isn't even tight over implants now & it's only 2 weeks after surgery. I was told the skin wld b tight. Just so disappointing. I remember the breast care nurses joking  saying 'u'll have good boobs at the end ' how wrong were they!

Thanks  @Patti J ,my surgeon's  1st mistake was not filling the expanders properly. But he did say that the implants wld b bigger than the expanders. I definitely don't feel happy within myself. Bone pain, nana hair & now a worse figure than when I went into surgery. No ideal in  40s
Glad your 2nd surgery gave you a good result.

I wonder if it’s good to get a second opinion as well. I know it’s all expensive. I had radiotherapy on the implant side which made the skin tight. You could take photos each week to see if there’s any change. Also check with your doctor about the codes for fixing the implants to make sure your health fund covers the surgery if you go down that route. Also, do you trust the doctor to have another go? It must be very stressful. My implant is very firm, but that’s due to the radiotherapy so I’m reluctant to have further surgery. 

So sorry you have not had good result  with your reconstruction @beccabecca. I have nothing but praise for my plastic surgeon. I had a latissimus dorsi free flap reconstruction 14 years ago, after a left mastectomy. I have implants because my breasts were so small.
I needed to have my implants replaced in 2010 because one was burst by a mammographer. But, she did me a favour really because my next lot of implants look much better.
You should definitely not be lopsided. Your plastic surgeon should have made sure you were the same size as before, if not bigger. You should also be pleased to be naked. Again, I  can feel your disappointment.

@beccabecca - @kmakm's suggestion about discussing it with your breast care nurse is a great idea. Otherwise is there someone else that you can take with you, back to see the plastic surgeon? It sounds like you could really benefit from having someone there that will advocate for you. Even though it should be enough for your Dr to hear from you alone that you're unhappy, sometimes it really helps to have someone else there with you to back you up and get something done about it. xxx
