  • Hey Shirl,

Well in that case a big Happy Birthday wish for 15th January. While we are dancing and celebrating you will be too. I can't beleive your a great grandmother to a three year old, you certainly look to young. I am the big 50 in November so I guess being a first time granadma in August is fairly normal.

It was great that you were all able to get together in Perth for the wedding, it must have been wonderful seeing everyone as you hadn't seen them since 1997... that amazing really but I know how busy life can be.I think we have been to a few functions where there appears to be a rent a crowd to hehehehe.  Most of my family live on the Gold Coast now (last 15 years or so) I am a Sydney Gal at heart. Anyway Shirl enjoy Saturday here's cheers to you for your special day. Take care  Jennifer

  • Hi there Shirl,

Thank you for responding to my Blog. My you did have a busy year in 2010 but I bet all the brides were so happy you kept your promise to them and attended their weddings like a true champion... how wonderful I hope you gave those dancing shoes a run for their money. Sounds like just one wedding to go for your stepdaughter so good luck with that. As I had mentioned we are planning my daughters wedding which is scheduled for 24th March 2012 so very excited, their official engagement party is next saturday evening 15th Jan. My oldest son was married in September 2010 and it is so exciting that they are now expecting their first child in August 2011. I am going to be a grandma hehehehe.

I am glad your results were good with no chemo or radiotherapy so obviously your positive attitude carried you through, it is really the only way to be so many wonderful experiences in life ahead. I think probably the most irritating aspect for me post mastectomy was the muscle spasms of the chest wall and not being able to drive for 6 weeks. I hope we can keep in touch take care Jennifer

  • Hi there Leonie,

I was so pleased you responded to my Blog as it is always nice to get feed back about others experiences. I did not actually attend the 15th Congress Brisbane in 2008 as was only diagnosed in Aug 2010. I had a bilateral Mastectomy 18th October 2010 and the story is still being written. So this will be your second bout of radium treatment and you mentioned probably followed by Chemo so has that been ongoing or another occurance of the BC. I will be thinking of you and  I really hope  things go well. I guess we can set goals for ourselves and look forward to reaching them. A close friend of mine was dianosed with BC 5 years ago and she also felt very tired towards end of radium treatment although I havent had any chemotherapy so hopefully won't be too bad.  I am really looking forward to and focused on attending the 16th Congress in November. It will be wonderful to experience another culture and meet some of the lovely women I have met on BCNA. I hope we can keep in touch, until then take care Jennifer

  • Hi there Twins ....... hope you had a great Xmas and a very happy 2011 to you too.

I love your positive attitude and also the fact that you are setting goals for yourself in 2011.

In the two weeks between diagnosis and mastectomy in January 2010, I had plans, and laughingly told the surgeon to get it right the first time or I'd be back to haunt him!!!!!

I had a niece's wedding and and  dawn to dusk ANZAC Day in April, trip to Darwin for my Granddaughter's wedding in May, and my stepdaughter's engagement in June.

When I was diagnosed, I promised the brides-to-be that I WOULD be there to dance at their weddings and I was lucky enough to be able to keep those promises.

My results were all good, no chemo or radiotherapy ... on Arimidex for 5 years.  There have been good times and not-so-good but fortunately the good outweigh the not-so.

Good luck with the radiotherapy .... keep those positive vibes going .... and I hope your 2011 plans work out for you.

    Cheers .... Shirl
