Heavy periods after treatment

Hi All
I just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else has had similar experiences or if I should be more concerned.  Quick background...surgery in March, (2016), chemo from May through June, radiation from July through to September.  I have chosen not to go on Tamoxifen and am instead consulting with a naturopath as it was only mildly receptive to oestrogen and I just wanted to avoid more chemicals at this stage.  So, two months after treatment finished my period returned and was VERY heavy and full of clots, for 10 days.  I booked to see my DR and of course that was the day that it stopped!  He wasn't concerned and said to just keep an eye on things.  Since then I have had daily spotting and then some days I will bleed for a few hours and then stop again.  Today it would seem that it has started all over again and it has only been around a week since I thought it had all stopped.  I kind of figure that my body has some catching up to do and is trying to get back on track.  What do you think...normal?  Has anyone else had this?
Thanks

  • Good point! I'm 40. They said my body could've gone either way...menopause or not and it would seem not! Thanks for your responses girls. It is hard to know who to go to now when we have been under the care of so many different people!
  • @Nards Hi!

Ok, so depends too on how old you are, I'm 48 and a few months before diagnosis last year my period stopped. I started Chemo and it came back with a vengeance huh!!!??? It stopped through Chemo for good. I'm 11 months post now and so its been a good year of nothing. My Oncologist said it would throw me into menopause as it does most women around my age. If you are younger, it seems like your body catching up, I'd see how it goes, and maybe book in to check it out. I had a pap smear a month after finishing Chemo and everything was fine. So wouldnt say it would be abnormal as such, but trust your gut and if you feel its a bit strange, then check it out for peace of mind. Hugs Melinda xo
  • It may be nothing to worry about but a check on unusual bleeding is always wise. Then you will know what if anything to do.
