Heavy period

Anyone else experienced extremely heavy periods while on chemo? I am 46  and my oncologist said chemo would probably put me into early menopause so I wasn't expecting a period at all. Now I am having the heaviest period of my life! If it wasn't Sunday I'd ring the clinic as it's a bit disconcerting.

  • Thank for your replies Sam, Carmel & Tracey.  It's does reassure me that I'm not the only one this has happened to. It does seem to be easing up a bit today thank goodness.  I'll see how it goes. Will call the nurse if it gets ridiculously heavy again.

  • Janet I am also 46 & finished chemo in Dec. I also had the heaviest period of my life  in between my first & second chemo which lasted for about 10 days (usually 4 days & very light !)  & that was the last one I had !!!  Blood tests now say menopause but even so the onc will wait before switching me from Tamoxifen .......to be sure ....to be sure.

  • Hi Janet,

I was told that if I ever had any issues I could call the ward of Maroondah Hospital as thats where I have been an in patient, if you are worried about your extra heavy period call the hospital where you have gotten treatment and speak to an oncology nurse.

    Good luck
