Have my first chemo date

Hello ladies well I got a call from my breast nurse she has informed me it's looking like my first dose of chemo will start 15th April :/. I get my port in next Tuesday which I'll be sedated for which I'm a little worried for it. My breast care nurse has a lovely wig for me ready to go. So it's all go now. Getting nervous for my first chemo but reading everyone's post I think I'll be ok is there tips that might help
  • What was said above and I'd add a visit to the dentist before chemo starts. If your taste changes try using plastic knives and forks and drinking with a straw sometimes helps too. Love my portacath it's a day procedure you'll have a little discomfort after but panadol or panadiene will help with that.

Wish you all the best Fiona

  • Try not to worry, because you WILL be fine. The things that I did were these.Have lots of hand sanitizer at home, and also in your bag.MooGoo skin cream, because your skin gets very dry.Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash,is the best.It is a bit expensive but I found it way better than bicarbonate of soda.A bag just for chemo for all your bits and pieces such as ipad, book, magazines, snacks etc.(it is very boring)!! Disposable gloves for home in the kitchen, for the second week when your immunity is low.Your own plate, cup and utensils for using at home, and DONT share them. When out,use antibacterial wipes for handrails, lift buttons, tables on cafés  etc. These are the things that you will pick up infections from.I was obsessed with sanitizing, and for me it paid off.Of course many ladies do everything right, and still get an infection. But you have to try.

Put a large bottle of sanitizer at your front door, and ANYONE that comes through the door has to use it.Take care and stay in touch on here.xox Cheers Robyn
