HAS ANYONE HAD THE ORAL CHEMO - XELODA?

Hi

I am new to the site and still trying to find my way around.  I couldnt find any previous posts on Xeloda, and was wondering if anyone else has had this drug, and if it worked?

I have previously had IV chemo, but with this new drug which I only started 4 days ago, I feel that it is not a real CHEMO.

I think my mind is playing a huge part in this.  With IV chemo I could see the drug going into my port, and feel the sickness, etc after each treatment.

With Xeloda, I take 4 tablets each day and that is it!!!  I cant see anything and I dont feel anything!!

Has anyone else tried this drug with good results?

Di

  • Hi Galaxy Sue,

Sorry to hear about your latest 'battle' - hope you are travelling Ok!

Thanks also for the comments re: Xeloda, very encouraging for me.  I have only been taking it for 1 week so far, at the end of the 3rd week (2 weeks on, 1 week off) I will be having blood tests, so I have absolutely everything crossed that the cancer marker will go down.  When I see onco in 3 weeks, he is going to decide whether Xeloda will be 'enough' on it's own, or whether he will also add another oral drug or IV chemo - just another waiting game!

I was aware of the hand-foot syndrome, but I didnt realise that the white cells could be affected.  What cloud have I got my head stuck in?  haha  My white cells were low a couple of times whilst on IV chemo, so it will be interesting to see with Xeloda.

I saw my breast surgeon today (routinely see her every 3 months for checkups and 12 monthly mammogram/ultrasound) - everything is fine on that front, no sign of any 'nasties' - so I am guessing the problems are all stemming from the bone secondaries.  I am having CT scan, along with the blood tests, at the end of 3 weeks, so hopefully these will show up what is going on!

Thanks again for your info - I really appreciate it.

  • Hi Di,

  • Hi Di and welcome to the site (from another Di :)!  If you want some help with using the site, take a look at the Help page, or else just ask questions. The site is still relatively new so you're not alone with finding your way around!

I did a quick search for Xeloda using the site-wide search (top right of the page where it says 'start your search here') and found a few older posts.  If  you'd like to have a read of those, here's the results page: http://www.bcna.org.au/search/node/Xeloda.  If you look at the right of each result listing, you'll see that it notes whether each one is a blog post or a website page. Hope that helps.
