Has anyone been to see a fertility expert with the hope of having a family after treatment?
This is my first post. I was recently diagnosed with BC 6 weeks ago not long before my 34th birthday. Everything has been a huge shock and there are many health issues to think about and decide on. I've been worrying about making the right decisions.
I will be starting chemo at the end of the month and thinking about that has been enough. I was advised to see a fertility expert to have my options open to having a family if I wanted to in the future. I came away feeling more confused and stressed about the whole process. I have felt under pressure to decide what I want to do before treatment. I was advised of basically two options. 1. Have eggs frozen the IVF way or 2. have Zoladex injections to protect the ovaries during chemo. Either option seems to come with some risk, especially since I have polycystic ovaries and other health issues. It seems that if I do nothing there is a chance that the ovaries could be damaged from chemo.
None of these options can gaurantee a pregnancy anyway. It's been all too much to think about esp, since I don't even have a partner.
It would be good to hear about other people's experiences with fertility experts and what advise they gave.
