Hi Carol,
You are so right about moving away from the more negative people in our lives. I find myself treating my time as very precious (because it is!) and I don't want to spend it with people that make me feel anxious or angry. One of the biggest changes in my behaviour has been my ability to walk away from an argument. I used to take my soap box with me everywhere!
I've seen a few people posting for 'three things each day' where they have to list three positives. I've also just finished the #100happydays challenge with my daughter where we both posted a photo each day of something that made us happy. My favourite version of this type of thing is 'seven days grateful' where you pick one day of the week and list seven things you are grateful for. I do this every Sunday on the facebook page that links to my blog. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Positve3negative/548288675239161?ref=hl&ref_type=bookmark You can do it with or without photographs.
There's a lot of great research into how this type of thing can change your life. I started 'seven days grateful' on my own facebook page (Meg McGowan) a couple of years ago and did it with photographs. It really did make a huge difference. Doing it once a week means you spend the week 'collecting' things you are grateful for and over time that just becomes your default setting.
I am grateful every single day. It's a good way to be.
