Happiness is a shopping spree with the girls
Just thought I'd share the amazing day I had yesterday with my favourite bosom buddies, my team of friends who have been there from day 1. They escorted me into the city yesterday to shop for a prosthesis. Despite my earlier concerns it would make some uncomfortable if I flashed my scar at them, I needn't have worried. I'm 6 weeks post mastectomy and had a fitting for a breast form. We were amazed at the weight of it (even though I'm a small B cup). So after passing around 'my new boob', to feel its weight, (LOL) I then tried on various bras and swimming costumes. We had quite a few laughs. Really appreciate the expertise of my fitter, who knew her stuff when it came to mastectomies, prosthesis, bras, etc with a beautiful caring attitude. An amazing feeling walking out of the change room in a t shirt the first time "Can you tell which one's the fake?"
Despite starting to lose my hair from first chemo 2 weeks ago, I walked out of the shop with a grin on my face, head held high ready to face whatever else will be thrown at me. This is a pretty crappy journey we're all on, but there was some joy yesterday. Thanks for the mammaries!
All the best to all of you out there,
Karen xx

Hi Karen
I have always thought that laughter is the best medicine. It's wonderful that you've been able to share and laugh with your friends. I hope you have many more moments and make many more mammories ??. Good luck with it all. Karen xox

Oh, good on you. I'm just starting this journey and it's one thing I do know, humour will play a part in it. My wig is called 'the cat!'. Haven't worn it just yet as I'm still waiting to start my chemo, which will be next week.
glad that you have got great support. What would we do without it?
my very best to you. Keep smiling. ??

Thanks Summer,
Yes they are a group of fearless friends. I have joked with them before that they're my bosom buddies and I'm their 'one bosom' buddy. We've all been through a lot with various other life concerns. This was a day of positives. Karen xx

Hi Jane,
Yes it was a brilliant day, and I hadn't had many of them since April. I saw the word 'mammary' in the shop title as we were leaving and said to my friends "thanks for the mammaries girls!" and we all had an hysterical laugh. Karen xx

Hi Sue,
Thanks, yes I'm looking forward to getting back to my 'old self' again with a few changes along the way. There were glimpses of it on that shopping day, as I remember clapping my hands like a little kid! Karen xx

Roll on with the mammaries, we have to laugh because it is a crappy trip, but you will get there one step at a time.
- June1952MemberHi Karen What a great group of fearless friends you have ! They really are bosom buddies. What a joy to be able to share such a personal moment and have a laugh about it all with you. It is good to be able to have a giggle about oneself like that as it takes the 'mystery' out of it for all your friends. I don't reckon you will be wearing wigs - I reckon your friends will join you in being short on hair when the time comes. Loved your last comment as well. Your post deserves to be 'featured'. Summer :-)
