I think I've been truly blessed with friends like these.  They've each been touched with breast cancer in their family (sister-in law, sister etc) and haven't backed away and been a great source of strength for me.

Another source of strength has been coming on this network.

Unfortunately I don't have many close friends.  However, I am very appreciative of those few who are, especially those who visited me in hospital.

Even if you don't wear the wig often, they are great to have if you  have a special occaision like a wedding to attend.  I went out with my girlfriends one night and decided to give Erica a night out.  The waiter was very attentive to us...he was actually bald.  Erica was a very shiny bob cut.  Anyway at the end of the night he came up to our table and asked what shampoo I used as all the waitresses were admiring my beautiful shiny hair. Well, myself and my girlfriends all burst out laughing.  He was looking so confused poor man.  When we finally finished laughing I told him I actually had the same hairdo as him...I was bald.  Poor man I had to reassure him it was OK.

We still laugh about that night today.

Glad to hear I brought back memories. I managed to get a black sexy number as well as a beautiful swimming costume (my friends were doing the search and passing in items to try on.)

I haven't done the wig thing yet.  It's been so cold, I've resorted to beanies under various scarf wraps (that I've learned off you tube!). Due for my next chemo tomorrow and an investigation of their wig library for some ideas (with a friend) My hair's thinning and molting quite drastically now so will have to get a pet for my head and name her!

Hi Karen, 

your post bought a big smile to my face. It reminded me of where I was four years ago. My sister-in-law who is amazing came up to see me after my mastectomy. I told her we were going shopping to get my new boob. She was up for it. My mother-in-law was a bit horrified at first but we dragged her along and we all had such a laugh. The bra fitter was amazing and I now buy all my bras from her. She even managed to find me a sexy black number. 

Two other great memories I have are my wig shopping days with my amazing daughter and two besties. We laughed so much. I had to have a wig for work and didn't wear it too much first time around as it was summer,  but it was great at work. She was called Erica  

When I had a recurrence we went off again to get a new wig (a short one this time) as my hair hadn't grown too long. Again we giggled and laughed. I think I am an expert on wigs now and so do my friends. The second one was called Madison, she got a few more outings as it was winter and she kept my head warm. 

its funny isn't it, you are going through something so traumatic but having your friends by your side and sharing in it and having a giggle along the way makes it so much more bearable. 

I wish you many more great mammaries. Really hope your treatment goes well.

Hi Lindyloo,

What a great name for your wig! Right now I'm molting like a cat, it started 14 days post first chemo. It's great winter beanie weather right now, and I've been experimenting with scarf tying from you tube clips. Maybe get my own 'cat'!

All the best with next week, I'm due for my second lot on Tuesday.
