Half way

Well, I am halfway through my third bout of radiation treatment.  Only five more to go.

I have been feeling really fatigued this week - not sure if that's the radiation or just a coincidence.  Twice this week I have been in bed before my 2 children (aged almost 4 and 2 and who go to bed at 7:30!).

I've also had nausea which I know is related to the radiation even if the nurses seem doubtful.  This is my third time with radiation and every time I have had nausea I don't think this can be coincidence.

I think though, that one of the worst things about radiation treatment is the fact that I have to be at the hospital every day.  On the first day I had an 8:40 am timeslot so I thought I would be in pretty quickly but they were running late (!) so I didn't get in until 9:30 am.  It really got to me and I was so teary and angry that the hospital, my treatments etc seem to 'take over' my life.  I think I just don't like not being in control.

Anyway, like I said, I'm halfway through so light is at the end of the tunnel - hurrah!  Then off to the oncologist on 2 August to talk about the next steps.

  • I go to the oncologist on Tuesday too.  6 weeks I've been on Femara so she'll check my blood markers but probably too early to detect anything.  I'm feeling good - have some pain in my ribs on the side of the mastectomy but I think that's from the radiation so not too worried about it.

Family is good. My kids are too young to understand that anything is wrong.

Will let you know how I go and look forward to hearing your update.

    Good luck

  • Hi Tracey

Have been thinking of you the past few days.  Did you have your scans?  Hope it all went well and the news was good.

  • Hi Amy.

Going for my CT and Bone scan about th 30th august.  Had Herceptin today but not sure what wil happen with that.  May have to have another heart scan as my last one showed a reduction in numbers from the first scan.  I'm not sure how they measure it all.  I had to start a new blood pressure tablet in May so they are hoping that the changes between my first and second scans are related to the chnge in medication and not a problem from Herceptin.

I didn't notice much of a difference or change when I went on the Femara.  I think the thing I remember most about it for me was I felt a bit more anxious about taking it.  Not all the time just every now and then but apart from that everything was pretty bearable.

Good Luck with everything and hear from you soon.

    Take care.

  • Hi Tracey

    Thanks for your message.

I finished the radiation on my upper spine and left hip about a week and a half ago.  Not too many side effects - a bit of nausea (which I always seem to get with radiation) and a dry mouth but that's it.  We've changed my treatment to Femara as my last blood test showed that my tumour markers were up (again!).  So I've been on Femara for about 9 days now.  Haven't noticed any new side effects yet.  Fingers crossed that this one will do the job for me.  I go back to see the oncologist in about 5 weeks.  Will probably be too early to tell if it's working then but maybe, hopefully, my markers may go down a little!!

How about you?  How are you feeling?  I seem to remember you go for your next scans next week?  I hope it's all going OK for you.

    Thinking of you.

  • Hi Tonya

I have been treating myself to some chocolate every day.  I think us girls earn our treats!
