I've only just joined so hopefully it will help me a lot. I finished my Chemo in January 2010 & within a month my hair started to come thru..not thick but at least it was coming back. In the last 2months it seems to be getting thinner on the top..it's OK at the sides & back..I was just wondering if anyone else has gone thru this & what did they do for it...Please help...

Hi Louise, It might depend on which chemo combo you had.I had docetaxil and cyclophos.and finished last July.Well I was completely bald for over 2mths.My oncologist said that Taxatore is harder on your hair folicles and my hair would take longer.Now (over 6mths later)I have about 2cms of hair over my head in varying lengths and thickness.No fringe yet so am wearing my own designed headbands.I'm on Tamoxifen and thin hair is a side effect but I seem to be ok. I'm taking Blackmores hair,skin,nail vitamin -I like to think it helps! Tonya

Hi there Louise, I can't help you with the hair problems you are having as I was fortunate enough not to have needed Chemo, but we have plenty of ladies on line who will be only too happy to share their experiences with you. I'm so pleased you have chosen to join us here in "blog-land" and I hope you will pop in at any time for a chat. You don't need a reason, just treat us like your next-door neighbours - you know , the ones where you just arrive in time for a cuppa (though we can't provide that yet .... Thanks so much answering my question so quickly, it feels good to be able to talk to some one in the same position. Iv'e been one of the lucky ones and don't have to take anymore medication, which is really good. I will try Blackmores hair, nail & skin tablets & see how they go, thanks Tonya, I'll try anything to see if it will work!!! Thank you too Tanya for your comment but I'm past the menapause bit so I can't blame that...and Shirl it would be nice to pop in & have a cuppa..tell Di to keep working on it. Thank you for your reply Tonya. It's strange how different chemo treatments affect people in different ways. I was always a very strong person and thought I would cruise through this but how wrong have I been so I guess it has nothing to do with how strong you are at all. It beats me how the elderly get through all this trauma and sickness etc. I also have a colour for my hair but haven't been brave enough to put it in as it's an ash blonde colour and might turn my grey locks purple (oh my!!!). Didn't want to get anything real strong as have had enough chemicals pumped through my body during the last 16 months.

By the way as far as the peripheral neuropathy goes, if anyone out there has had any experiences similar to what I am having, please let me know. I have booked an appointment with a Reflexologist next week so really hoping there will be some relief after.

Well it sounds like we are on the same time line with our hair.I didn't complete all my chemo rounds because I ended up in hospital isolation with no white cells.My oncologist thought Taxotere was "too strong"for me and wanted to swap me over.I decided to stop it and he was ok about it so long as I took Tamoxifen.I didn't have lymph node involvement and body scans clear so I weighed it up and felt that anymore chemo might do more damage than good. So I guess that's why I didn't get any peripheral problems.After I stopped I was completely bald for 2mths and my oncologist then informed me that Taxotere was a lot "harder"on your hair follicles-wish I'd known that beforehand! The slow hair growth made me quite depressed .Like you,8mths on and all I've got is grey curly fluff about 2cms in length.I am soooo over hearing comments about my hair and how it's coming in different bla bla. Next week I'm going to get a colour and cut and hope it doesn't fall out!Good luck with your hair woes.
