Hair hasn't grown back

Hi, it's been more than 2yrs since my final chemotherapy treatment and my hair is still rubbish....very thin, with bald patches.  I went to work through my treatment so maybe it's because I wore a hat or wig for so long?  Anyway all I read is how hair definitely 'comes back' and even my oncologist doesn't know why my hair is so poor still, any input most appreciated.  Thanks

  • I don't mean to alarm you...but as Tonya said above, I  read somewhere that 6% of patients on docitaxel have permanent hair loss.  Saying that, yours is growing so you're probably not in that category - but perhaps could be why it is thinner.

I only remember this fact because I was on that cocktail but did not know until I finished chemo of this statistic! (Pretty sure I read it on this site somewhere, to do with side effects of chemo drugs).

    Good luck to you.....Jen x

  • I had radiation back in 2003 and then a mastectomy for a recurrence in 2010. My lower ribs get abit sore where my bra rubs and they also get sore if I lie on the mastectomy side in bed for too long. What chemo did you have? I have heard that the Taxotere drugs are harder on your hair follicles. My hair is ok now but took along time to start growing back.I was worried at the time and I came across a group of women in USA who remained bald after taking Taxotere(docitaxel, taxol).I think there is a small risk this can happen. The antihormone drug,Tamoxifen can cause hair thinning which is what is happening to me at the moment. The price we pay ay!  Tonya xx

  • Hi I had lots of radio (after lumpectomy)-although it's been 2yrs since then- and now I notice I seem to get very bruised/sore ribs from time to time.  Ofcourse I always panic that the cancer is in my bones but it's not....it seems to happen after long plane trips, I wonder if it's from sleeping awkwardly?!  Anyway I'd be relieved to hear of anyone else who has had the same experience...thanks.
