got my radiation planning date yayyy

Yes I took 2 weeks to recover after my last radiation zap so don't plan too much excitement.I used to keep aloe vera gel in my handbag and as soon as I had my treatment I would dash to the toilet and put it on my boob,then a cotton hankie,then my bra.I would soak most nights in a warm,salt bath,then apply vit.e cream.My skin never broke down but my boob looked like a hotplate by the end!

The two weeks after I finished were the worst for me, but then it all cleared up really quickly. My skin was being radiated so might have been a bit more extreme in my case, but give yourself that room just in case.

Hi Dette that's so good to hear ,I wish you a very easy and non eventfull next two weeks post chemo and that an easy journey thru radiotherapy. I am having my last chemo on the 1 of november and I hope will be an easier one as this third cycle was a bit nasty to me . The radiation oncologist doctor said that he hopes my treatment will comence on the 21 november as they prefer an three week gap from last chemo to give the body chnce to recover. I know exactly how you're feeling! I got the phone call last Thursday to say my planning day was Monday - not much warning but I didn't care. So went through Monday and the ladies and oncologist were wonderful - even provided the oil to clean off the drawings when done (although I'd gone braless for the appt anyway).

I know I start on the 14th Nov but not actual time schedule yet - they warned me it could be as late as the Thursday before again although they are going to try to work as close to my requests as possible which will allow me to work a few mornings if I can cope with that and the daily travel.

As far as skin issues prevention, both the radiation nurses and my plastic surgeon have recommended plying with aloe vera cream and then if any reactions are worse than that can handle they'll treat as we go.

 Had my last chemo today so am really looking forward to this next step too.

Thank you for the tip  Josie , I don't want my good bra ruined. Can you give me any other tips regarding looking after my skin during radiation and to prevent any skin issues. Thanks alot once again, regards Monica

Hi Monica - here's a hint (I tell all the ladies) - don't wear your good bras - they draw all over you and the ink makes a real mess, so just settle for the 'old daggies' if you have some and once radiation is over you can go back to the pretties! x x x Josie
