Good news!
Yesterday I had a long day at the hospital shuffling between tests and appointments. Had my mammogram and ultrasound and the lady was so gentle and caring it was marvellous:)
She was using a new machine that basically take pictures of the breasts in slices. It's still a tall machine but narrower, no handles on the side and part of it moves over your head while taking images. Now that's an explanation in my layman's terms:)
Then saw the surgeon (who saw me an hour earlier than my scheduled appointment) and has told me that no signs of cancer were detected and he is very happy with my recovery.
My sigh of relief was quite audible.
Even though I was quietly confident I was so relieved. My whole body relaxed. They did both breasts and the lady doing the ultrasound mentioned that one lymph node in the right breast had gone into the breast tissue but no problem as it was in there last year as well.
Being a worry wort I asked the surgeon and he said it's not rare for this to happen and they will be checking regularly. I then saw the oncologist ( who also saw me an hour earlier than expected) and she was also very happy as well, all the niggly things are common leftovers from chemo and I am 'normal' for the stage I'm at.
I had decided to dress up and put my make-up and wig on and they all asked if I had done the LGFG workshop and when I replied yes they all said it had done wonders and that I looked great.
Between each department they are now spreading my check-ups to every 3 months and I'm happy with that.
I cannot say enough about the Royal Brisbane Hospital, they have been so attentive and kind to me. The breast department asked me to take my file up to the oncology department with me for my next appointment and with some time to kill I decided to have a read:)
It was like reading a diary of my past 10 months. Of course I couldn't understand a lot of the writing:) We really are blessed with our public hospital system in this country.
Anyway, my partner and I have decided to have a 3 night stay on the Sunshine Coast early next week for some R&R and hopefully let our troubles be behind us.
What a 'journey'! Hope you are all doing as well as can be, take care,
Hazel xx
