Good Morning
Hi out htere, well on my 3rd lot of anbtibiotics and finally have some relief from this nasty staph infection.
Busy week saw medical oncolgist yesterday, I am going to be given the works, chemo, ra...
Thanks Jacqui.
I am having chemo before the mastectomy as I have already had a lumpectomy and auxillary clearance and because I had cancer in the lymph nodes there is a chance it could be in my system so chemo is the best way to attack it. If they did the mastectomy first it would delay chemo by another 4-6 weeks which wouldn't be good. The cells still in the breast are tiny so they can afford to do chemo first.
My cocktail is TAC which is cyclophoshamide, doxorubicin and docetaxel. I also take Dexamethasone pills before each treatment cycle. After the mastectomy I will have radiorherapy and then a pill for 5 yrs. I am also taking part in some clinical trials so other drugs will also be administered. I am trialling a drug to see if it reduces or prevents secondary cancer in the bones which is the main secondary cancer from breast cancer apparantly. It is a 5 year trial and at least you are closely monitered throughout the 5 years which can't be a bad thing!
I have been told I will lose my hair so have already bought a wig (see my blog wigs on wheels). Stupidly, I am more worried about the other side effects of vomiting, nausea and mouth ulcers than hair loss...how crazy is that??
My work too have been very understanding and only want me to go back when I am ready and on my terms..we are lucky aren't we?
Anyway, I will post after treatment and let you know how i went
Regards
Jenny
