Gone to pieces:(

Hi ladies, hope you are all doing as well as is possible. Well, as the title of my blog states, I have gone to pieces. October will be 2 years since my BC diagnosis and I have been doing fine. What has upset me is that on my 55th birthday in April I received a bowel cancer test kit which I completed and received a letter saying the sample could not be analysed and to do another one. I did the second test and have now received a positive result saying there was blood in the sample. This was weeks ago and today I saw my GP who has referred me for a colonoscopy. My partner recently had to also have a colonoscopy and the preparation for it is, of course, unpleasant. Having had my anxiety under control for the last 2 years throughout chemo etc. it has now reared it's ugly head. My letter states that less than 1 in 10 positive tests turn out to be bowel cancer. That's a good statistic, if I could just travel that optimistic road everything would be fine. I have been told twice today to basically suck it up, be a big girl and have the damn test. I have come here for more comforting words, no guarantees, just something like 'maybe it won't be a secondary, maybe it will be nothing, maybe I won't have to go through some harsh treatment down the track. Even the prep for the test has me flipping out, I have been lucky to only have diahorrea (bad spelling) only twice in my life, and don't cope well with the loss of control. This seems very trivial, I know, but it's just something I can't handle. Anyway,I have stopped crying while typing this and that's something, hey? I guess the fear really doesn't go away, I'm just not ready or prepared to hear any bad news. I've only not long gotten use to the 'new normal', don't want the goal posts moved again. Thanks for listening ladies, I will keep fighting on to keep the 'black dog' out of my life, wish me luck with that one,

Hazel xx

  • (( hugs )) thinking of you.
My dearest friend and fellow feisty warrior woman went through bowel cancer last year only to find out this month that despite 3 clear scans, it's back again.  So she's helping me with my baby steps and I am doing the same for her.

  • Hi Hazel

Well you are one step further than I am. That was my 50th birthday present from the government and it has sat unopened on my bedroom floor since I got it.  I'm scared of it. Ridiculous isn't it?  I'm not sure how we get past this overwhelming fear that is always at the back of your mind and then creeps forward at times.  You are right, the prep is foul but the good news is it's better than chemo. It only lasts a day! All of the girls are right that  there is many reason for blood in your stools. I'm with Scotty that those who have belittled your fears need a good punch in the face.  Do some things that makes you happy and try some meditation to help with the anxiety.  Sending hugs and positive energy your way.  Take care. Hi Hazel, sending you a big cuddle and all the very best of wishes for your colonoscopy. Warm wishes, Trace ????

  • Oh Hazel my online friend:)I really feel for you tonight.Do you know what though? There are SO MANY reasons for blood in the stool...even just straining when going to the toilet can cause it! I bet you are going to be fine.I have the kit,and you have now prompted me to do it!! Hazel you need to try and believe that all will be well, because it most likely will. You are very responsible completing the test kit,and it is because of this kit that bowel cancer diagnosis's are coming down rapidly. As survivors of cancer,we all should keep on top of our health when we can.The people that are in denial about things are usually the ones that run into trouble Hazel.I look forward to reading your next post that all is well, and I hope that I will be the same. You and I are at almost the exact stage  post diagnosis:) Come on Hazel, chin up and smile:):): Cheers Robyn xox

  • Hello Hazel, there are a few reasons to have blood in your stool piles, pollyps anal fissures so don't be worried yet as for someone saying suck it up I would like to punch them in the face. You have been through enough. Well we all love you xxxx

  • Hi Hazel I try to save my stress/worry for when I have proof positive that something is wrong. Which is not a easy thing to do I might add. It is quite common to have blood in a stool, piles etc can also cause this. When I had my colonoscopy I followed all the instructions to the letter remember it's way better to have a really clear Bowel so the camera gets a clear look I really didn't want to have to go through it twice. I had a Hemorrhoidectomy after my colonoscopy which I would never do again just quietly. I find when I stress it just exhausts me I imagine you find the same thing. I'm sending you positive thoughts & hugs take care LeneNatt

  • Hazel, I will wish you all the luck in the world, I your fight to keep th black dog at bay. That one I get!! From that perspective, I get your feelings about the colonoscopy, and loss of control. Just make sure that at every step, you let people know how you feel. I'm not quite 3 months since diagnosis, and I don't know how I'll ever get past the fear, every time a new symptom arises.

    thinking of you
