Dear Flatjac, How are you these days? Did you stop the chemo? I’m sorry I couldn’t help with any advice back then as I had no experience to draw upon. Fast forward to now and after a unilateral mastectomy, lobular cancer was found in my other breast following a prophylactic mastectomy on the other side. With all the breast tissue and some lymph nodes now removed, and a clear CT and Bone scan, I have refused genetic testing. I know that it’s different than genomic testing but my reasoning was that whatever the outcome was found to be, I’m not going to change any of my behaviour and I refuse to reduce my quality of life by being hyper-vigilant and worrying myself sick about cancer returning, every remaining day of my life.
The suggestion was that following testing, it might be a good idea for my ovaries and fallopian tubes to be removed. I’ve decided to get on with life and only act on real information not statistical probabilities. Other people may possibly have made a different decision but I’m really satisfied with where I have landed and hope you are too.
