Genetic testing

I had the blood test in June and will hear back in October.  I didn't not think of testing until after my mastectomy and after speaking to relatives when I realised how many in my family (on my father's side) have had breast cancer. 

I have been told I am unlikely to have the gene but still think it is important for the sake of my children, particularly my daughter, and all the females in my extended family (irish so there is quite a few of us!). 

Before the test, I did ask myself what I would do if it came back positive and I think it is important to prepare yourself with this answer first. I was very lucky to have non invasive cancer so only need surgery and if the test is positive, I will opt for removal of the other breast.

Hi,

I had genetic testing and my results were negative so yay me on that one. the actual test is just a blood test, nothing obtrusive at all.

If my results were positive I had decided I would have had a double mastectomy and my ovaries removed but thankfully I didn't need to make that choice.

Hi,

I would have loved to have it but would have had to pay thousands.  I have no known bc in family although my forebears on both sides of my family died young but I am unable to find out what of.

My oncologist sent me off to discuss it with the testing people who did not recommend I needed it, so you can always do this to.
