Genetic result

Hi Ladies,

The genetic department contacted me yesterday. I don't have the BRCA 1 or 2 genes which is great news. They detected a 'clinically unknown variant' which at this point in time could be good or bad. Not enough is known about variants at this time, much more research is needed.

The results took only 3 months which is great, the councillor again mentioned that down the track they could discover a BRCA 3,4, 5 or 6. My family and I remain at high risk and all we can do is keep getting our checks.

I am the 7th woman to be diagnosed since our maternal  grandmother and I sincerely hope I'm the last. At least they have my sister's results and mine as well now, so hopefully when the researchers discover something else, and I'm sure they will, our records are on file.

Hope everybody is doing as best they can, take care,

Hazel xx

  • Great news that you don't have the BRAC 1 or 2 genes ! But yes, that does seem like a very strong family history. As you say who knows what they will discover next and at least they can then check your results. Really good to hear from you, hope everything else is going well for you. Take care. Deanne xxx
