I had genetic testing as my mum was first diagnosed at 40, and me at 42, so both young. No other family history.
All clear but they explained that for me and my sisters our risk is slightly higher than the general population, so we advised to do yearly rather than biannual screening. I was asked to take part in an ongoing study looking at genes related to breast cancer, which I agreed to. If anything comes up in future they will let me know.
I'm going ahead with single mastectomy only, as it is very rare for the original cancer to recurr in the other breast, rather than somewhere else in the body.
