Gene Testing
On the 26th I attended genetic counselling after already providing my family tree. They told me due to my age and confirmation of my family genetic mutation in Scotland it is very likely I have inherited a faulty BRAC1 gene. Oh shit....I didn't say. 51 ...breast cancer...grade 3 but stage 1...Her2+ Es + now possibly gene also. I now await confirmation of this.
The hardest part was discussing it with my siblings who are now going for testing. My sister for her own risks. My brother for his daughter and multiple granddaughters. I am so hoping they are negative. (As well as myself ) My niece is super stressed.
I have made the decision I will pursue more surgery if needed. Already a bilateral mastectomy and halfway through reconstruction, chemo over. So dissapointed I might have more to do before health returns. It's sure is a hard fight to reduce our cancer return risks. ..but ovarian cancer has no early detection...so what choice do we have?

- primekMemberI hope it hears you. @ScorpionQueen
- ScorpionQueenMemberScreaming to the universe that yours and your siblings results come back negative xx
- ccasperMemberThat's good initial news then! Hoping it stays that way @primek
- primekMember@ccasper I have got back initial results which is negative for BRAC1 mutation. However they have obtained an actual DNA sample from Scotland and want to retest against it and check for any other genes. They just cannot believe it isn't positive. ... due to my age and family history. I'm just hanging on the negative as being correct presently.
- ccasperMemberDid you end up getting your results @primek ?

Feeling for you having tested positive myself. We are now waiting for my parents results to find out which side of the family it has come from so that we can notify family members. I also have two daughters who are still too young to be tested but whom I now worry for. And three nieces who are now thinking of getting tested. I will be undergoing the partial hysterectomy in December once I've fully recovered from my mastectomy/recon. Hope your results come in soon. The waiting is horrible.

- NeMemberI totally get you. Was the same for me. You think it will never end. Be strong and know we are all here for you x
- primekMember@Ne Yes...I just want to get on with it. So frustrating as start back at work Monday..and may well need to go off and have more surgery. ..sigh...it is what it is I guess.

You will be ok no matter what. You still have a gazillion other genes fighting in your favour. Hang in there Girly. I survived prophylactic surgeries and are really happy that I did them (if it comes to that for you). It is a lot for you to digest right now and on top of our already cancer diagnosis it makes it extra hard on our already frail minds but once you have done everything in your power possible you will feel so much better. I actually am glad now that I know about my BRCA2 status cause better the devil you know.
