Full steam ahead to surgery on Thursday

I feel much more safe and settled having seen the surgeon. I am having a mastectomy and snr on Thursday at The Mount hospital, going for bone scan today after CT scan yesterday. Peter says I have a Stage 2 cancer IDC that is 3cm long, sounds so much better than 5.8cm long. The DCIS goes all the way into the nipple, so that will go along with the skin above the cancer, but he seemed to think I may not need radiotherapy or Chemotherapy at all. Which made me feel that I have a life-style change to deal with, not a death sentence. Somehow, switching from when will I die to how to build the best  life for myself given these changes is a really uplifting switch

    Sending you all good positive vibes for Thursday. I have found along my journey the surgery isn't so bad its all the other stuff that goes with it.

    I agree with the front button pj's also buy sleeveless if you can, I had trouble but manage tog et some online and express delivered.

    Just a little tip, I have learnt not to think about my treatments and what is ahead because it always changes and then I would get upset (control freak that I am) I was told no chemo and then wham it was chemo time.

    What will be will be and the best advice I was given along the way was to let go and just go with the flow.

    To be honest the surgeon didn't say specifically that I wouldn't, but seemed genuinely surprised by my assumption that I probably would need one or the other. I got a strong impression that he has seen a lot of other patients with a similar picture (ie Stage 2 IDC/DCIS of 3cm,  and he knows that only a small percentage have spread into the armpit nodes or beyond. And this has now been endorsed by my Bonescan and CT scan which appear to be negative.

    I do realise this is all preliminary to the pathology result, and maybe depend also on what type of cancer it is. But as my daughter said, after the initial bad news, every hopeful result feels like we just won the lottery

    Great that you feel more relaxed about everything. You can concentrate on getting rid of those nasty little buggers and get on with your life. I hope that your surgeon is right and you don't have to have radiation or chemo. What a relief that will be. I hope everything goes to plan and you recover well from your surgery.
