Food issues

I was wondering if anyone else has found that foods that they used to eat and enjoy, they now find DISGUSTING...

For me it is eggs (even thinking, writing or talking about them make me shudder and feel sick - so I will try to not mention them again if I can get away with it), and the smell of them makes we want to vomit.

I used to love them scrambled, poached and as omelettes (shudder, shudder, shudder!!!).

Now YUCK, as I said even thinking about them, typing about them, talking about them, and god forbid smelling them, really make me feel sick.

So does anyone else have this with a food (or foods) since beginning chemo?

  • Oh dear I hope I don't get where I dislike eggs cause my chickens will be upset they can't give their mum her breakfast when she wants eggs.  :-)

  • Funny about the eggs.  I didn't give it a thought really but now that you mention it - I have been finding it difficult to eat them.  I have lots of food allergies (pre bc) but I could "get away" with eating some of the things in the "out of bounds" category without too much problem.  Now after chemo I have to stay to a strict diet free of dairy, gluten and sugar products.  At least my body should start to get a bit more healthy!!!!!  I must say I have no sense of smell.  But I have been this way since my first radiation therapy back in 2006/2007.  (sometimes this is a very good sense to be without) XLeonie

  • Yep I know the craving thing too.

My body has been craving KFC. Yep, not something I ever ate much of before, but that is what it often wants now.

I was warned about eating your favourite foods, because you may not like them afterwards but not my favourite perfume, so thanks for the heads up on that, i will make sure I don't wear it.

I just find the egg thing strange, as I really detest them now, I have only eaten them once since I began chemo and that was fine but afterward the smell in the house, was horrible, and know I had to pick the egg out of fried rice last night, because the thought of eating it was DISGUSTING.

It is strange the felling isn't just, yuck don't like that, or don't want that it is utter revulsion, the though, smell etc, i don't have to get anywhere NEAR taste, just the thought absolutely revolts me.

I also can't eat much chocolate, occasionally I can have a little, but not much. Never been able to do the spicy food things (IBS and spicy food don't mix).

After my first chemo I ate a lot of calypo icy poles (the raspberry and pineapple ones) as I had a VERY sore tongue, KFC potato and gravy (am going to make my own and freeze it today, for this cycle of chemo), popcorn chicken etc.

(Don't know what is with the Normal 0 false false false EN-AU X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 things at the top but I can't seem toget rid of it - SOrry if it makes reading my post difficult. And a little help if there is anyone out there who knows what happened and how to get rid of it).
