Five Years!!!!

Well who would believe it, how time flies....Drove the 1100Kms round trip for my 5 year checkup... and All Good, The specialist has told be to stay on the arimidex for the next 6 months (which will be a 5 year course), and then come off them.  We know the statistics are not very old, but hey ho we just have to try, and to an extent we are still helping build the stats. I have been one of the lucky ones with Arimidex, the only side effect i have had all the way through is morning stiff and sore fingers in my left hand(the side the nodes were removed), but once i got them moving they were fine.  The specialist has suggested i come off them as i have osteoporosis, and as arimidex is not good on the bones, it would be a plus to come off after the 5 year treatment.  Now i can go to our regional hospital every year for my mammogram so thats only a 300k round trip.  I have mixed feelings at the moment, my last professional contact since my journey began 5 years ago has now finished, and i am really happy to be here to tell the story, but now am a bit scared not having that support.  I am sure i will overcome that with time. and after all i do have my pink sisters right here.     Thanks for your comments ladies, I know i keep saying it, but we are so lucky to have this site, where we can come and say how we are feeling, without feeling like we are whinging? and know my pink sisters know what i'm talking about lol.  Thats why its important to keep up the good work of supporting the ones going through it.XXXXX Moira XXXXX

    What a great milestone, Moira!  And I can imagine the feeling of stopping those regular checkups -- I'm guessing your health professionals will be available on the end of the phone if you need them, though, even if you don't have appointments. 

    How great it's been to meet you through BCNA!  Love the connections in this online network.  :)

    Yah yah yah.  Look out Sydney here comes Moira.  I am so looking forward to catching up again.  It is such a celebration to get the good news of "release" and I can feel your apprehension.  I live with so many stories that don't have this happy ending. Now is your time to rejoice. XLeonie

    Yes,you certainly have support from your pink sisters at this network. I can't imagine travelling 1100kms for a checkup.I guess 300kms will seem a breeze in comparison.I have to say I'd probably be whinging about driving the 300ks!  I'm so glad you've made it to 5 years and got the nod of approval to soon finish Arimidex - congrats! I know you've had other,non bc related health problems along the way so it's been even harder for you to get to this point. You have been brave and amazing and I hope it's all smooth sailing for you from now on.I hope you are doing the happy dance and celebrating.
