I didn't feel too tired throughout my nearly 5 weeks of radiotherapy but it helped that I didn't have to go to work as my job was made redundant a month after my lumpectomy in March. It meant that I could go in the mornings, have the treatment, and be home within minutes to shower, cream the radiated breast, and rest for a good hour or so.. I live only 5 minutes away from the hospital so there was no travelling time to worry about either. So all this helped cut the stress and fatigue. If anything I felt more uncomfortable when the breaking skin started under the breast, even though I looked after myself so well throughout radiotherapy. The last 3 weeks was made up of hospital visits as the nurses changed the dressing and checked to see that my breast was starting to heal, so I felt tired by the end of all this. I had my appointment with my Oncologist today and he is very happy with everything so far, and I am starting to heal emotionally and physically. I have gone back to my dietician / nutritionist and my Oncologist was very happy to hear that as he explained being inactive and overweight is linked to recurrences down the track. The need to eat lots more fish and salmon and other Omega 3 foods is very important too. So my goal now is to take off another 15 kllos and walk to get fit. I just need a walking partner as my husband gets home too late and as he has a physical job he just wants to come home and rest. lol I might join a walking group in my local area, or the other option is to hire a good treadmill.
We are looking to go away either in late August or September but not sure where yet. Hopefully we will decide by the end of this month.
Take Care Marg and remember to rest when you get home after each treatment, have your cool showers, and " cream" as much as you can.
