I am so sorry you have had to join us here on BCNA but so glad your doctor had the great insight to refer you to such a fabulous and supportive sight.  We are all here for you and know exactly what you are going through. 

It is a blessing you have not been through chemo huny as you will not be as tired as you could have been.  Can I also suggest that you do not wear tight things that will rub on the area.  If you can just wear things like cami's etc and stay away from anything that will irritate your skin.  I was given sorbolene by the hospital to rub on as often as I wanted to.  You will be instructed as the best thing to do by I am sure very caring and luving nurses both male and female.

If you find at any stage you have any concerns with anything whatsoever PLEASE make sure you speak up straight away.  You should be able to get to speak to the actual nurses at any time and see your rads oncologist on a regular basis.  Do not leave anything unsaid as only you know your body. 

Another thing that I found really helped me was I would air the radiated area whenever it was possible so it could breathe and not always be constricted by clothing, bras etc.  I truly believe that helped me.

Hi Cottontail52, I was diagnosed on 19th Feb then my op was 11th March and now I am in my last week of radiation, it has been a long wait,but then i remind myself of the people who need urgent attention. Thank god that wasn't me, but I do want it over, I thought after the op. the tumor was removed and I had clear margins, that was it, but no know I am in preventative care. I can still see the 2nd Dr who called me back in, because he thought that "maybe" I had cancer, he saved my life, because, things might have been so different next year, when I went for my annual check up, and even though it is tough, I will never forget his face.

Iwas the same as you,surgery  23rd April, still waiting to be called  for radiation therapy. Got told I  was low priority, this me feel a little upset cause  I healed up well  and was ready to go. One by one all my travel plans have gone out the window.The waiting is now making me angry.I now I should just be happy that it was detected early.

Thanks for the tips. I love my little pillow it's been handy I mainly use it for the car seat belt but will try it for sleeping if I need it.

Thanks I'm going for the radiotherapy after work too and I am planning to keep up with gym too. I was told by doctor I can start doing upper body exercises in another week so looking forward to doing boxing again :-) I'm hoping I don't get too tired but I guess I'll have to see  how I go.

Hi JackieMC, I have just finished 3 weeks of radiation, 1 more week to go, and I know everyone is different, but you do get tired. You must just give in to it and rest. This last week has been harder, sleep at night is uncomfortable, but my Dr. told me yesterday that I am to take panadol 4 times a day, which is so not me, but it is helping so much. Just do everything they tell you, plenty of cream etc, and I wish someone told me before now to use the breast cancer little pillow they give you in hospital, you put it around your breast and it supports it, makes so much a difference when you want to sleep. Good luck, I call this an inconvenience, it is not going to take my life away!

Thanks maryrose that must have been difficult for you with school runs. I'm lucky my kids are all in their 20's no more driving around. I'll look for the moo goo my surgeon recommended that for the scar manag
