First post chemo haircut!

Hi all,

Thought I'd share this! I had my first haircut today after painstakingly growing my hair for 6 months. First haircut since 20th August, 2011. It felt really strange. I had a good chat to the hairdresser who was fantastic! Great advice. Another one to cross off the list!  I'm still feeling like a cancer patient even though I finished radiotherapy in mid March. I'm still having 3 weekly herceptin until October so I suppose until this finishes I still am a patient.

Good luck to all those who are undergoing treatment for the first time and those survivors like me out there! Stay positive and live each day as best you can..

Take care lovely ladies,

Alison xxxx

  • Things are going well but I've got a cold at the moment which I could to without. Tamoxifen is fine and the side effects have settled down. Not many hot flushes which is great. My hair is very straight but still very silvery grey but dark at the roots. I've lost my cowlick at the front though!  My signature!

Hope all is well with you. Have you finished all treatment?  Love to come and meet you one day.

    Take care and stay well.

  • Al, I finished chemo at christmas & radiation in March now just the Tamoxifen which I started a couple of months ago (so far so good !)  My beautiful SIL & I & one of my friends are heading back to Fiji for another holiday in August so I am hoping that no side effects happen in the mean time.

  • Hi Carmel,

I've had the same response to my very white hair. I too went silver grey very early - late 20's and have been dying it ever since until my BC journey began last year. I too have had so many positive comments about how nice it looks the way it is now. I think I'm just going to leave it a while, too. I'm quite content with how I look. Also dying it is expensive.

Good luck with your new look and the months ahead. Have you finished all treatment? I'm still having 3 weekly herceptin until October and of course Tamoxifen daily for the next 18months then Femara.

    Take care,

    Alison xx

  • Hi Al...must be the weather for it. I just had the hairdresser round on Friday & she ran the scissors over my somewhat curly hair all the time in disbelief at said curls. She has cut my hair for about 15 years (canberra really isn't very big!!!)  & has always cursed me because no matter what she has done to it it always does what it wants & now curls to contend with as well !! My hair was very white from about early 30's & was always dyed back to (natural) dark brown & very straight. Now it has these curls & more "dark" hair than the last 15 years...... I can't even decide if I am going to dye it again. I have had so many positive comments about my new look, I am trying to be very patient & not make any rash decisions at this point.

  • Congratulations on your first post chemo haircut, what a great milestone ? Can't wait until I get there, or even just have hair ?
