First "mammoversary"

Well today I had my first mammo/ultrasound tests since my diagnosis and treatment and I am over the moon that all is clear and well.  It is great to be able to tell my hubby this news on his birthday and we can now go on our holiday at Xmas time without the worry.

My wonderful breast surgeon has suggested that I should consider reconstruction and reduction as I have pretty large breasts and with the two lumpectomies I had to have it has left me quite "lopsided".  She has referred me to Brigid Corrigan whose rooms are in SJOG Subiaco and I wondered if anyone has had any experience with her for this purpose?  I'm usually not a fussy person but this is pretty important as you want to get it right, don't you?  Also want someone who has an easy going demeanour.  Someone with a sense of humour if you know what I mean!

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone the best for the festive season, particularly those who are going to be undergoing treatment during that time.  I send you special hugs!

    Too true Cindy!  Got to have something good come out of this!  Loving that picture of you with your grandchild(?).  Compliments of the Season to your and yours as well. Hugs!

    That is wonderful news Vicki. You know how happy I am with my reconstruction and reduction so all I can say is go for it. It is the only good thing to come out of this experience as I would never have had a reduction before this journey. I know we have already exchanged best wishes etc but once again a big thankyou for the photos you forwarded on and a Happy, Happy Christmas to you and yours. Love Cindy xox

    Hey Chris! Missed you at last weekend's gathering! Thanks for the heads up on Brigid. I have gone private all the way along my "road trip" so it will be nice not to have to wait. My window of opportunity is from now to June next year given the next mammo must be done at least six months apart from surgery. I think I'll just bite the bullet and go for it! Have a lovely Xmas and look forward to seeing you again in 2014!

    Thanks Robyn! Yes, it's very important to hear the good stories and I certainly grow in confidence every time I read those of others. The light at the end of that tunnel can shine very brightly indeed!

    Hi Vicki, Dr Brigid Corrigan was my surgeon when I had to have emergency surgery in Perth 2 years ago. I knew no one here and my Sydney breast surgeon and plastic surgeon couldn't recommend anyone over in Perth, so I went to Royal Perth Hospital, and she had a public list that day, and I was slotted into the end of her day. She was wonderful, and my plastic surgeon was very impressed with her work. I had a large bleed under my expander 3 weeks after my mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. She had to remove it, stop the bleeding, drain off 800 mls, wash out the expander and replace it and put in another drain.I had no on going problems as a result. I met 2 other women in my ward that were having reconstruction with her, and they both thought she was wonderful. Apparently there is a wait list for her through the public system because she is so good. I'm would think through the private system you wouldn't have to wait too long. Love Chris xx

    What a great Xmas you are going to have.And isn't it great for all the ladies just starting out,to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.I think that stories like yours are a very important part of this huge network.I wish you the happiest of Christmas's and a great holiday.Robyn.
