First blog ever!
Hi all, well I;ve never blogged before - so here goes!
Thought it was a momentous occasion - just prior to the 2011 Summit and 3 weeks, to the day, when I will say goobye to "Barb".
To explain Barb is the name given to my prothesis - or left "breast" by my youngest daughter. She was aged eleven and Barbie dolls were well loved toys when I was diagnosed.
Barb has been my contstant companion for over six years. Well actually I have had 3 Barbs and the last one was pierced by a broach after only a few weeks in my company - so I have been lopsided for over two years now!
About a year ago I decided to explore the option of a left breast reconstruction. I met with my plastic surgeon (Megan Hassall) earlier this year. A plan of a right breast reduction then left reconstruction a few months later was mooted. However after consulting my breast cancer surgeon it was determined I need a right mastectomy. So in three weeks I will be worked on by two brilliant surgeons and emerge with two new boobs!
