Finished Radiation today !!!

All finished today and the staff were awesome as usual. They gave me a small teddy to take home as a way of saying farewell and well done. All that's left is to see the Oncologist in 6 weeks time and then what will be quarterly checkups, mammograms for the first year. I still have my days when I get emotional with all this and today speaking to my nurse after my last " rad " session was one of them.

I am thankful it was picked up early and that the hormone treatment is going well. I do have bouts of feeling angry and fraustrated and was told that the tablet that I am on, " Tamoxifen" can have mood swings as a side affect. Apart from that I haven't done too badly so far.

On june 13th there is an information day called " Live Well" at Moorabbin Hospital and BreaCan with various specialists talking and afew workshops afterwards. Its a 9.30am start through to 3.pm which includes Morning Tea and Lunch. It should be fun and very informative. Would love to meet anyone of our lovely ladies here who may be going too.  Wishing everyone well.

  • Thanks Donna you are such a special lady and so helpful with all your advice and your time.  I really enjoyed meeting you some weeks ago and hope to see you again soon. I hope to start walking more from next week and go to afew relaxation classes too but the medical staff have told me to take things slowly for the first month and not do anything too physical. Honestly, even if I wanted to I couldn't as the lymphedema in my breast is still a problem and painful. Look after yourself and take care.

  • Hi Ronnie

so glad you have finished your radiotherapy now you can settle a little and let your body heal. the workshops sound like a great idea and so good you can attend them. good luck with it all - hope to catch you on the site here and there! can't wait to get back walking and excercising - way too tired with chemo and work. I have my last chemo on 17th june.

  • I am so very happy for you, its so nice when it comes to an end and yes we do have ongoing apoointments to deal with but its so much better than the treatments. My Breast Specilist told me just this week to walk more it apparently fixes all ailments. Take care Donna
  • Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging support. You were one of the first ladies I connected with back in February and I appreciated your calming words and all the information you gave. I will definitely stay in touch and this site helps bring us all together. Yes, I was told today that Tamoxifen can bring on mood swings so I was told it's good to walk as often as possible to alleviate some of the symptoms. Off for my afternoon rest again.
