Finished chemo

Finished chemo - the pain is over. :-)

First 3 x FEC100 and then 3 x Taxotere - this has put me into early menopause which is what my oncologist wanted (as my cancer was hormone positive.) So this started the hot flushes I had always heard of. My oncologist has put me on a mild anti depressant which stopped the hot flushes and will help alleviate any anxiety prior to surgery.  I am slowly healing and getting stronger every day. Got about 1cm of hair on my head - seems I will be almost completely grey/white.

I have spent so much time resting- like a huge catch up for all those times I have done way too much. Lost count of how many movies I watched and how many times I fell asleep on the lounge.

Now comes surgery on the 21st Sept then radiotherapy. My ultrasound will help determine what surgery - I have decided to just go with what my medical team tell me and trust they know well enough which way to go.

  • Well done Maria - congratulations on completing chemo.  You are now in the very brave group.  Anyone who has chemo, in my way of thinking, is very brave.  My first "crop" of hair came back white and fluffy so I got my husband to shave it completely off.  I now have salt and pepper coverage but it is like "real" hair.  Keep resting and don't forget it takes a bit of time to get energy back. Well done Maria on finishing your chemo!  And I'm glad to hear you are still taking the time to rest up.  Aren't the hot flushes just a treat - haha.  Mine only come at night at the moment so it's doona on, doona off, doona on, doona off, ALL NIGHT LONG!

My hair is just a bit over 1cm but very sparse - I'm wondering if I should buzz it back again so it grows back thicker?  At the same time I'm loving having some hair and therefore am reluctant to get rid of it.

Make sure you keep resting up to get your body ready for surgery - 21st Sept is not far away.  I think you are right to put your faith in your medical team - that is what you have them for.  There are so many different schools of thought out there it can be difficult to make a decision sometimes.

    Take care and keep smiling
