Final chemo done!

Hi everyone, had my final chemo yesterday, can't believe I made it. I didn't start off excited because I know I have to endure the side effects one more time and they haven't been pretty with hospital stays included, but I am so relieved it will be the last time and when my good days arrive in 2 weeks I know I won't be knocked down again with another dose of chemo. I remember being so terrified at the beginning thinking I would never be able to do it, but I have. Few hiccups along the way with my partner developing heart problems, I can honestly say it was the most stressful time in my life. I had some problems with the docetaxol which I wasn't coping with and my depression and anxiety tried to get a hold and nearly got on top of me, but all in all I made it through. Brilliant team of medical professionals at the Royal Brisbane helped me immensely and got me over the line. My family and friends kept telling me how proud of me they were, I couldn't see it because I was a sook when I got really sick. It's definitely the hardest thing I have ever done in my life and I'm now starting to feel a little proud of me too. I still have radiation for 6 weeks at the end of this month and that will have it's problems too but I'm sure it cannot be as hard as chemo. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel now and it feels good. I have blogged some negative stuff along the way and I did consider not being so negative at times because I thought it might frighten other ladies who have still to do chemo, but I chose to be honest about the way I was feeling. Everybody is different, my depression sometimes snuck in at times. My main message is 'it is doable' and with all my setbacks I've proven it. Thanks for all your support, and I'm sure I will have more questions about my next steps but for now 'What a relief':) Hope everyone is as well as they can be, take care,

Hazel xx

  • Good on ya Hazel, the hard part is over. I have found radio to be a walk in the park compared to chemo. Much easier on the body. I wish you all the best - it's a great milestone to reach and put behind you.
  • So pleased you've made it through OK! Well done! I'm dropping in from time to time, so watching progress with interest. Overcoming those difficulties you've experienced is very inspiring.

  • I'm so happy for you, Hazel. It is a really BIG achievement and you should be really proud of yourself. Hope the next two weeks pass quickly so you can recover and move on to the last part of this process. The hard part is done! Deanne xxx
