femera

Hi ladies yesterday I went back to see my oncologist to have a chat about taking Arimidex. I have been on arimidex for about 18 months I'm struggling with the hot flushes, joint pain and being tired all the time. The hot flushes are the worst as they are effecting my sleep patterns and my job. This summer has been terrible as it has been so hot, I'm a carer in the community and hot bathrooms, hot day and hot flushes are not a good mix. So after a discussion she has suggested I change to femara, i have just read the info dosen't sound much better. I have gone off the arimdex for 2 weeks and will start femera on the 1st April.
So my question is how others are on femera? Good or bad if this dosen't work she is saying that I might just have to go off any medication this terrifies me.
She has also referred me to the menopause clinic
To top my week had a sit down with the hubby about not supporting me, lots of tears and his answer was he is.
Go figure it must just be my imagination he sits on his but alot while I'm doing the cooking and cleaning. I work fulltime he has dropped back to a 4 day week.
Life is CRAP at the moment

  • Hi Rowdy
Lots on femara for metastatic bc as well. Many of us have minimal side effects. For me minor joint discomfort only some days when getting up after sitting..with exercise goes away...and try to reduce weight if needed. It does work and reduces tumour size
Dont believe the side effects positive mind is important
    Good luck

  • Oh @rowdy, I had to smile. So many of us 'just want to be back to normal'. Congrats, you've made it. You are getting treated exactly the way you would be if there was no BC. And having exactly the same domestic gripes you would have had if there was no BC. Yeah, not helpful, but still, I had to smile. Marg.
  • I take the brand. I realise there is a cost difference but I take what my doctor has prescribed as he knows what else I am taking. Some women have had problems with generics with Tamoxifen as there may be differences in the fillers, so I prefer not to take that risk.
  • Hi @rowdy, I will be starting Femara on Monday & am not looking forward to the side effects. I bought the brand as heard that sometimes the fillers they throw in the generic brands can cause problems. Don't know if this is true but didn't want to take the risk. Sometimes you have to be firm with those men as they just don't get it. If you are walking around it seems you are in the best of health. I had to have a couple of meltdowns in my house before the men got it! Hope things improve for you!
  • Hi forgot to ask do you take the brand or the generic brand, asking the question as $5 difference in price
  • You need some good stuff soon. Sorry you are feeling so bad, I hope a change of medication helps. I have been on Femara and apart from knocking my bone density about a bit (known side effect and luckily mine was very good so I have some wiggle room) I have had no side effects that I am aware of. No aches or arthritis like symptoms, no flushes. I switched to Arimidex to see if it would help a hair problem that turned out to be (I hope!) temporary but to be honest I didn't have any side effects on that either. Didn't improve the hair so back on Femara. Good luck with everything.
