Hello GayB. I had been taking Arimidex for 6 yrs and it was causing considerable joint pain. My surgeon wanted me to continue taking it for 10 yrs so my GP referred me to an oncologist for a 2nd opinion. He put me on Femara which lasted only a few days with me because I was up in the middle of the night sweating, etc. He then tried me on Aromasin and that wasn't successful either, so I am back on Arimidex and take Actonel Combi D to help my bones seeing the Arimidex and others can cause osteoporosis. I know of a couple of other ladies who take femara. One says she is always 'hot' but otherwise it's okay. Maybe it might be okay for you. People react differently to medications. I hadn't heard about the success rate being only 45% - I'd have thought it would be higher. Another lady I know was told she could stop Arimidex after five yrs and 8-9yrs down the track now, she has had a 2nd mastectomy. I think it is best to probably take the medication, side-effects and all. I hadn't heard of 'ovarian ablation' but will look it up myself. I had 28 radiotherapy treatments but didn't have chemo. I do hope everything will work out well for you. Look forward to catching up again.
