Feeling so sick still a week after surgery :(

Hi to all

I am really struggling with how I'm feeling. I have felt so crappy since surgery last week.

The surgery area seemed okay, but last day or so, seems to be getting sorer.

I am aware of mastitis etc, and I do think there is a slight reddening of the lump excision area, but basically my whole breast and arm etc just feels sick. It's hard to explain, almost like a tingling pain. If I touch it is extremely tender. I did have a lot of pain in my neck shoulders etc and swelling first few days in that area, that seems to have settle a little bit, but basically the whole right side of my body just feels sore, sick, uncomfortable..

And to be honest I think it's worse than the first few days. I don't have a temp or anything. Maybe the slightest red patch and tender to touch for sure. I haven't gone to the doctor as I don't believe its infected etc.

But I also know it feels so crappy. And the thing is, it's not so much pain as sickness with the sensation.

Gosh, probably not explaining this well. I wondered if it was from the clump of nodes they took that have left me feeling so ill.

Has anyone else had similar experiences after the same surgery, wide excision lumpectomy and node removal.

I'm due to take my bandages of tomorrow, so will be able to have a good look at the area thats red etc.

And I did last year have mastitis after lupectomy so know what it is, I also thought maybe I've just got a small dose of it and that's why its not real red and why I don''t have a fever, but mabye enough that I just feel so sick each day.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Cheers, Karen :)

  • Thanks Lyn. I think I will go back tomorrow and maybe get a scan on the lymph that's come up. It's a long oblong shape lymph under the skin and runs down from under the lymph node cut. So its quite prominent. May be nothing, but not cocomfortable with such a big lump like that, especially with being so ill. Could be pooled blood or fluids so definitely goi g to dic in morning. Cheers, Karen. ??

  • Hi Karen

I'm glad you've seen a doctor, & been put on antibiotics. Usually with oral antibiotics it takes about 24hours to start noticing improvement. If you're not improving, or feel worse at all, do 't hesitate to get checked out again.

hope you recover from this hiccup quickly,

    lyn

  • Hey guys. Thanks for messages. Just came back from docs. He too us unsure lijexnyself what is going on, but agrees I shouldn't be feeling so sick each day. There is a kind of heamatoma kind of lymph below the node cut area. But he can't see any outward signs apart from few small faint red patches. He's put me on antibiotics hoping the sick feeling and discomfort settles down. And if gets worse to go back. Glad just had my first antibiotic just now as feeling very ill again today. Hopefully it kicks in soon and I start to improve..xx

Hi Kazz, doesn't sound right to me. I think you should have it checked out. It's normal to have swelling around the area, but if it's red, I'd go to the doctor. And if you're feeling sick to boot, it's not right. Hope that dr can help. Thinking of you, and wishing you the best, Tracey B ??

  • Hi Karen, doesn't sound right to me and your body is telling you something. Is your drain out?If not then maybe it's blocked. It could be infection, fluid build up or even a haematoma(slow bleed)I think you should get it seen to tomorrow- I am speaking with my nurse's hat on now! Tonya xx
