I am sorry to hear of your frustration, I certainly can relate. The daily struggle to move about due to swollen stiff painful joints (only up to my hips). The mood swings, angry and short tempered - later chest pain and shortness of breath and then finding out another side effect of the Arimidex, high cholesterol. Tired and feeling like I was only half alive.
I was fed up - only 2 years into my 5. I felt I could no longer live half a life and I was not going to allow the fear of the big C word to rule my life. After all, the drs had done all they could do to help - it was removed, what remained was attacked by chemicals and radation. So with the approval of my GP I stopped and later spoke to my oncologist who suggested a change to Tamoxifen.
After much thought and with the help and guidance of my naturopath I have taken a natural path and started on a course of Indole 3 carbinol - which is a natural hormone blocker. Changing life habits and eating healthy, including gentle regular exercise. This is my journey and it feels right for me.
So far over the last few months I have had no side effects, lost all the bloating and some of the excess weight I gained on the Arimidex. The sore stiff joint pain stopped within a week after coming off Arimidex. In saying this I have known of others that have had a break from the Arimidex, then gone back on it to find it was easier.
So basicly ellie, be well informed and know that it is your body and your choice. What may work for one person may not work for another.
I prefer the wholistic approach - my life works better that way. I may have made a big mistake and the cancer may or may not return but I will face that when and if it ever happens. In the mean time I choose to live my life.
All the very best.
